A 5.8 Magnitude Earthquake hit us here in the Cayman Islands. As of 10:15am the Government gave the all clear to go back in to buildings in downtown George Town.
I was in my office downtown and we ran out into the street as we realized we were having an earthquake. It was like we were drunk! I was wobbling left and right. Cell phone service was intermittent and now seems to be back up.
The USGS shows it as 20 Km or so from the Cayman Islands. 5.8 is a lot but it is no where near to what happened to our neighbors in Haiti. Let us now loose focus on this. 200,000 dead as a UN estimate.
To put into perspective thats 8 World Trade Center disasters in one go. All of this coupled with bad infrastructure, bad resources and little aid on the ground. They need our help down there.
