Legendz Sports Bar September 29, 2008

Always busy, this sports bar seems to be ticking over quite merrily week in and week out. When they are slow, the island is slow and thus they seem to be doing nothing too wrong in this plasma ridden establishment.
There are locals all about the place; medical students; dive masters amongst others. But what really goes on in between quarters; periods or halves?

The menu is handed to me and is huge. Perhaps too big. Once I find a sliver of light to be able to read the fine print, I see the stains and cracks and peels of laminate coming off of the pages. The bar is clean enough, though the heavy traffic this place sees is apparent on the carpet on the way in and the state of the menu.

When my food arrives it is exactly what I want in a sports bar meal. Ive got my fries, meat, gravy, toasted bread. What else do I want in a sports bar meal? Looking around the bar it seems that there is an abundance of frozen – deep fried food, but, things must be tough in the islands. I bet the chef has been there a while and it is easier that way. The wings were very average. All sports bars must have a wing to be talked about – Legendz does not.

You can pretty much watch whatever game or match you want here. The staff and management try to keep all happy with all of their satellite access. You could creek a neck with all the twisting you could do whilst keeping your eye on the scores. The manager seemed to be uninterested in what was going on with the tables though. He was happy to change channels with a smile, but he seemed to not visit any tables and ensure customers are content. This place has a corner bar feel in a way. The manager should be shaking hands with all – especially with a large hotel across the street.

The girls are pleasant behind the bar. At times they seem more interested in the regulars than little ‘ol me – but I understand why. These are their bread and butter and probably drinking partners off shift! They continually check on your drink levels, they are all over the ashtrays and don’t mind introducing people to people. Look at that! A corner bar feel – manager!

The clientele also has an infusion of Americans staying in the aforementioned hotel. A certain level of know it all and sports banter is prevalent across the wood. if you take that with a pinch of salt you could find yourself here for a few hours.

I would recommend this bar to anyone on the island. It may take a few visits to get the corner bar wink however.
