Reviewing all of Cayman

Reviewing everything in the Cayman Islands for you

Ragazzi December 4, 2008

art_05The doom and gloom of the economy is taken it’s toll on the food and beverage industry here in the Cayman Islands. With McDonalds seeing a huge rise in profits stateside, it shows that the casual dining sector is on a slide. High season in the Cayman Islands hasn’t really reached it’s high stature yet and there are rumblings about restaurant closures, staff layoff’s and the cost of food and beverage.
Why then, am I sitting in regazzi and it is packed! I think everyone has seen the peaks and valleys of the climate, as have Regazzi. But when you consistently deliver a consistent product people stop taking risks and start paying their well earned cash on products they are more than likely going to enjoy.
The pork tenderloin is pricey, but is a delight. The salads are average and the pizza’s are great out of the brick oven. One thing to remember is when you have an open kitchen, the customers can see and hear everything you do back there. The nicest touch was the staff on the cell phone. Still, small things recognised from sitting at the bar. The restuarant atmosphere is good. Though I sat at the bar, I have sat in the restaurant on previous visits. The overpriced wine menu is not necessarily the fault of the restaurant. Purveyors are continuously raising prices. There’s that economy factor again!

The bartender seems to act like a floating Madaam. She rules with an iron fist. She makes sure all is good and she has a killer smile that will go to your bone. Strangely weird.
Predominantly Austrian in it’s workforce, Regazzi tries to tap into the European genre. I dont think that the white boards are very appealing with dry erase dust falling from them nor are they Europeanesque. The chairs are small. I guess they though a lot of Europeans were going to come in and not Americans. Still, keeps you awake when you try to centre both cheeks on the chair. The portions though are plentiful and Regazzi has surpassed the test that is Grand Cayman. Now, they need to realise they are on to something and keep it fresh.

Go to Regazzi. Make reservations. Have the pork. Drink water.
